Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
