NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
