Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
