Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
