No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
