Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
