Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
