NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
