Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
