No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
