Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
