Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
