No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
