Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
