Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
