Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
