Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
