Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
