Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
