Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
